To be a winner you have to think and act like a winner.  Bill Murphy JR. a writer for Inc.com says , “From thinking strategically to maintaining discipline, these core principles make success more likely.” The relation between Marines and those planning to work towards big jobs on Wall Street all the way down to young children beginning their lives all have something in common.  To be successful in life there are key  principles Bill Murphy Jr. speaks about.

In order to be a winner in life people should begin to take the long view.  For parents this is a great set of advice that should be remembered. When battling with your children on values you are trying to teach them, remember to focus on what’s really necessary.  Focus on the values that are not only going to affect them today but rather what will affect them in the long term in their lives.

Take a stand with your children as well as an individual. Find something you believe in and you will never have an excuse to not stand up for everything you believe in.  For example, if you feel your children should not have phones or tablets, do not let it happen. Stand against the pressure of your children wanting them. If you feel strongly about something, be strong in your feelings and support your decisions whole heartily.

Become an expert at something or find someone who is. Not everyone is able to be an expert at every aspect of life and everyone is an expert at something.  Those who attempt to be experts at everything or who are not experts at something present themselves to be the least exciting people.

Also, another important quality is to know who those on the other end of your negotiations are.  In order to win any argument you need to understand what is motivating the other party. Understanding their position on the topic you are negotiating about it will allow you to better evaluate the topic and have a successful outcome. When negotiating with your children, be firm and know you are in charge. But when negotiating with other adults on business topics and so on, here is where you should do. Follow this concept and be aware of others. It is important negotiate from the top making sure that the other person child or adult is away that you are

Be Willing to Walk Away From the Battle

Be sure to understand the challenge you are facing. It is common for people to get wrapped up in a difficult challenge. Be sure to not invest too much time into something that is not going to result in an extensive outcome. Do not invest your time in trying to get your children to enjoy a food they do not like. If it is something healthy find other healthy alternatives to substitute it.  As a parent, learn to know yourself. Converse with your spouse if you are not good at the discipline. Watch and learn from your spouse- observe them.  Many people do not understand what they are good at and some do not even know what they are not good at.  This becomes effective as giving the ability to learn from each other what needs to be worked on as a parent.

Timing in Parenting

Everyone always says timing is everything and to be successful you must be at the right place at the right time.  People tend to confuse timing with the idea of surprise.  In relation to parents, timing is everything. Teaching your children the right concepts in math and English at appropriate ages will make a great difference. To grow as an individual it requires much risk.  Things in life are never one hundred percent.

There is always an area of risk. Trust your instincts and take risks in life. Jump ahead and sometimes you may fail, but other times great success can be a result of your actions.  In your actions, be disciplined as a parent. Determine things you want to achieve as a result of actions taken. If for example you want to grow as a parent and be able to have a great connection with them make a plan. Set out daily to achieve a better connection with your child in a different aspect of their life.

Seek Foreign Adventures

Key to success in modern business and life, Marlin says, is to embrace the fact that we live in a truly global world. Look out for opportunities beyond our national borders. Travel, learn, and explore.

Trust and Verify. Be disciplined

Growth and profit often require risk, and there are no sure things in life. No contract or plan can eliminate all risk.  The best leaders evaluate things thoroughly. While trust is required-or no action would ever be taken-they also verify as many of their assumptions as they reasonably can. Be disciplined. Find things you truly want to achieve, formulate a strategic plan to get there, and discipline yourself to achieve all the intermediate steps.
