How-To-Make-Online-Learning-Easier

Children have been thrust into remote learning with no preparation due to the school closures caused by COVID-19. Despite the many challenges online learning holds, there are many things you can do to help make your child adjust to online learning.

Here are some ways to help make online learning easier for your child.

Limit Distractions

Some adults who work from home have difficulty due to the many distractions that come with the environment. This is also true for children who are studying at home. You can help your child succeed with online learning by setting up an environment with little distractions. An ideal learning space for your child is somewhere quiet and clutter-free. Make sure there are no toys or electronic games around so that your child knows this area is for school only.

Set a Schedule

Another way to make online learning easier for your child is to have a daily schedule so they get into the habit of doing schoolwork on a routine basis. Having a set schedule will help teach your child about time management and make the most of their online learning time. Having a set schedule during the school day will also help your child get a better sense for how they should budget their time throughout the day.

Give Plenty of Breaks

Many children, especially younger ones, have a hard time sitting still for long periods of time. Make sure your child has plenty of breaks away from the computer so that they can focus during online instruction.  One way to do this is to encourage your child to play outside for a specific time before coming back inside to finish their classwork.

Set Time to Connect With Friends

Children miss their teachers and friends, so it's important to set aside some time where they can connect with friends. Encourage them to call their friends, or teach them how to use Google Meet or other online platforms where they can talk and play with their friends. Getting used to these technologies will also help them get used to the online learning environment.

Ask The Teacher for Help

Get advice from your child's teacher about how to best help them succeed while they participate in online school. This is a way to know what the teacher expects from your child this year, and their teacher may also have some advice and information to help you encourage your child to succeed during this unique school year.
