4th graders will deepen their knowledge of reading comprehension by learning a variety of strategies:
Applying Reading Comprehension Strategies: Learning different strategies to enhance reading comprehension, such as inferring, summarizing, and more.
Understanding the Main Idea: Reading passages and determining the author's purpose (to inform, persuade, or entertain).
Making Connections: Relating texts to personal experiences, other texts, and the world.
4th graders will learn about literary elements, developing a deeper understanding of the components of fiction narratives:
Exploring Elements of Literature: Diving into components like plot, setting, characters, conflict, theme, and point of view in fiction.
Understanding Types of Characters: Studying different character roles such as protagonist, antagonist, deuteragonist, and more.
Analyzing Conflict: Understanding the four main types of conflict: character vs. character, character vs. self, character vs. nature, and character vs. society.
Expanding knowledge of point of view: Exploring different narrative points of view, including third person, limited, and omniscient.
4th graders will learn the figurative language and identify stylistic expressions that authors use to improve their writing:
Introduction to Figurative Language: Learning about various forms of figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and more.
Identifying Similes and Metaphors: Recognizing and distinguishing between similes and metaphors.
Exploring Personification and Hyperbole: Understanding and identifying personification and hyperbole in texts.
Working with Idioms and Proverbs: Identifying idioms and proverbs in context and exploring their meanings.
4th graders will learn about literary devices, understanding key elements authors use to enhance their storytelling and convey deeper meanings:
Introduction to Literary Devices: Learning about different literary devices such as imagery, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and more.
Exploring Imagery and Alliteration: Identifying examples of imagery and alliteration in reading.
Detecting onomatopoeia and foreshadowing: Recognizing onomatopoeia and foreshadowing in a story.
Understanding Irony: Learning the concept of irony and examining examples in literature.
